Who We Are

Healthy Young Kenya is a non-governmental organization based in Kenya that
targets young adults (18- 30 years) struggling to prioritize their physical health.

Established in 2022, the organization aims to engage young adults through simple, relatable and practical
information on how to maintain proper health practices so as to reduce the risk of chronic
lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, gout, heart disease and obesity.

The prevalence of chronic lifestyle diseases among the youth has been on the rise in recent
years. According to AMREF (2021), each year, over 100,000 Kenyans die from chronic lifestyle
diseases while more than half of all hospitalizations are also attributed to the same. The
number is expected to rise sharply by 2030 with the increasing industrialization and civilization.

These diseases were previously more prevalent in the older population, but have recently been
seen to affect even those below 25 years. Young Kenyans are prone to risky health patterns,
ranging from poor sleep patterns and lack of social support to destructive behaviours such as
drug abuse, physical inactivity and unhealthy diets.

There also exists a large perception barrier among the youth as most of them consider
themselves generally healthy and feel no need to be intentional about their future health. Many
don’t prioritize their physical health mainly due to being oblivious about investing in good
health habits for the present and future.

Healthy Young Kenya aims to narrow the information gap that is keeping young Kenyans informed of
how the basic day-to-day aspects of their lives can be optimized practically to improve both
their present and future health. Our mission is to engage young adults to live healthily today in
order to maintain a longer and healthier future. We aspire to improve chronic disease
awareness and prevention knowledge in Kenya thereby reducing the population of Kenyans
affected by preventable chronic diseases.

The organization takes a holistic approach to promoting health and wellness, focusing on
education and community outreach through social media health sensitization and health
forums distributed for young adult audiences. At Healthy Young Kenya, we believe that everyone deserves
the chance to live a healthy and fulfilling life. By working together, we can prevent lifestyle
diseases and create a healthier, more resilient future for all. Join us in our mission today!
